How to Grow and Care for Peace Lilies Indoors

Soil and Potting:

  • Use a well-draining, slightly acidic potting mix. A mixture of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark can work well.
  • Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
  • Repot your peace lily every 1-2 years or when the roots outgrow the pot.

Temperature and Humidity:

  • Peace lilies prefer warm temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C).
  • Avoid placing them near cold drafts or heat sources.
  • They thrive in moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by grouping plants together, placing them on a pebble tray filled with water, or using a humidifier.

Fertilizer:

  • Fertilize your peace lily monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
  • Withhold fertilizer during fall and winter.

Blooming:

  • Peace lilies can bloom throughout the year under ideal conditions.
  • The white flowers (spathes) will eventually turn green and fade. You can cut them off at the base to encourage new blooms.

Common Problems:

  • Brown leaf tips: This can be caused by underwatering, low humidity, or excessive fertilizer.
  • Yellowing leaves: This can be due to overwatering, lack of light, or aging. Remove yellow leaves by cutting them off at the base.

Toxicity:

  • Peace lilies are mildly toxic if ingested. Keep them out of reach of children and pets.

By following these tips, you can enjoy your beautiful peace lily for many years to come.
